Care Institute Netherlands (Zorginstituut Nederland) is evaluating baroreflex activation therapy for inclusion into basic insurance package

An assessment was initiated earlier this year on the request from Dutch Hypertension Society and umbrella organization of 9 health insurance companies Zorgverzekeraars Nederland. The Institute will evaluate compliance of baroreflex activation therapy (BAT) for treatment of resistant hypertension with the state of science and practice.

Based on the results of assessment, BAT might be included into basic insurance package for provision to Dutch population. The date of release of the report is not yet known.

Foundation for reimbursement of BAT within DRG system has already been established with creation of procedure codes in 2015 and DRG in 2016 (which belongs to segment B of DRG system, so tariffs shall be negotiated between insurance companies and hospitals).
