The final version of the 2022 OPS procedure coding classification released in Germany

In late October 2021, the BfArM (Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices) has published the final version of the 2022 OPS procedure coding classification. The OPS, together with the ICD-10-GM (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th revision, German Modification), forms the basis for the reimbursement systems in outpatient and inpatient care.

Changes in the Danish Health Care Classification System in October 2021

In late September 2021, the Danish Health Data Agency (Sundhedsstyrelsen) has published the update of the Health Care Classification System (Sundheds-væsenets Klassifikations System, SKS). The most significant changes include: 31 new diagnosis codes and 14 procedure codes were added. The newly added procedure codes concern mainly pulmonary and airways area and neuromodulation procedures.

Early benefit assessment of seven interventional procedures by the IQWiG in Germany

For the first time in three years, the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) received data within the framework of the early benefit assessment of new examination and treatment methods (NUB) with high-risk medical devices according to §137h of Social Code Book (SGB) V. This involves seven invasive therapeutic cardiovascular, pulmonary, neurological, gastrointestinal, and urological procedures.

Thermal laser or radiofrequency ablation for benign thyroid nodules assessed by Spanish HTA agency Avalia-T

At the beginning of 2020, the Galician Scientific and Technical Advice Unit released a health technology assessment on the treatment of benign thyroid nodules (TNs) by thermal laser or radiofrequency ablation that aimed to assess its safety and clinical effectiveness compared to standard treatment. The methods were considered safe and effective procedures for the treatment of benign, solid, and symptomatic TNs.

Med Tech-related technology assessments and clinical guidelines from NICE in July 2019

In July 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published one new diagnostics guidance for therapeutic monitoring of TNF-alpha inhibitors in rheumatoid arthritis, two new interventional procedure guidance (for transurethral laser ablation for recurrent non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer and ultrasound-guided high-intensity transcutaneous focused ultrasound for symptomatic uterine fibroids), and one new MedTech innovation briefing for HemaClear for bloodless surgical field during limb surgery.

Med Tech-related evaluations from NICE in June 2019

In June 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published six new interventional procedure guidance, one new Medical technologies guidance for Endocuff Vision for assisting visualisation during colonoscopy, and two new MedTech innovation briefings (for Danis stent for acute oesophageal variceal bleeds, and The OPTIMIZER smart system for managing heart failure).
