2025/26 National Genomic Test Directory released in England

On May 6, 2025, NHS England issued an updated version of the National Genomic Test Directory for 2025/26, which lists genomic tests commissioned by NHS England via Genomic Laboratory Hubs. Three documents were published specifying test codes, clinical indications, target genes, the technology by which tests are available, and eligibility criteria for patients:

  • National Genomic Test Directory for cancer (version 12);
  • National Genomic Test Directory for rare and inherited diseases (version 8);
  • Rare and inherited disease eligibility criteria (version 8).

In the Test Directory for cancer, one new code (test-indication combination) was introduced related to liquid biopsy (ctDNA) in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC):

  • M4.14 Multi-target ctDNA combined Multi-target NGS panel - small variant (EGFR, ALK, BRAF, KRAS, MET exon 14 skipping and copy number variations) and structural variant (ROS1, RET, ALK, NTRK1, NTRK2, NTRK3, MET exon 14 skipping).

Furthermore, one new code (test-indication combination) was introduced for rare and inherited diseases.
