2025 Swedish procedure coding system (KVÅ) released
In October 2024, the annual update of the Swedish procedure coding system (Classification of Health Care Measures, KVÅ) was released to come into force on January 1, 2025. KVÅ includes two parts – medical procedures (KMÅ) and surgical procedures (KKÅ) divided by chapters based on anatomical principles.
A total of 55 new surgical procedure codes were introduced. Some examples of newly added codes are provided below:
- GCA38 Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction with endobronchial valves;
- LCD12 Vaginal hysterectomy with vaginal endoscopy (vNOTES);
- KEV51 Percutaneous endoscopic extirpation of seminal vesicle;
- KAA01 Percutaneous endoscopic exploration of kidney or renal pelvis;
- NCC03 Secondary partial prosthesis of the radial head in elbow joint without cement.
A total of 43 new medical procedure codes were added. Some examples of newly introduced codes are provided below:
- AQ000 Digital dermatoscopy, dynamic images;
- GA030 Cleaning and maintenance of eye prosthesis;
- SP371 Replacement of central venous catheter for dialysis, non-tunneled;
- ZV070 Use of magnetic tracer for marking in lymph node biopsy (additional code, which cannot be used stand-alone, only with primary code).
