2023/24 HRG4+ Local Payment Grouper released in England

In late March 2023, NHS England released an annual update of HRG4+ Local Payment Grouper for 2023/24, to come into effect on April 1, 2023. No new HRGs were added; the total number of HRGs has not changed (2,900).

The HRG design has been updated to accommodate the latest version of procedure coding classification (OPCS-4.10). This includes the creation of 264 new combination codes formed using new OPCS-4.10 codes, creation or amendment of grouping logic, deletion of combination codes, which were used to capture activity that now has its own specific OPCS-4.10 code, and remapping of existing OPCS codes to a more appropriate HRG. Moreover, cosmetic changes to labels and descriptions of HRGs were made to improve clarity.
