The preliminary version of the 2026 OPS procedure coding classification released in Germany

On August 13, 2025, the BfArM (Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices) published the preliminary version of the 2026 OPS procedure coding classification. The OPS, together with the ICD-10-GM, forms the basis for the reimbursement systems in outpatient and inpatient care in Germany. The final version of the 2026 OPS procedure coding classification is expected to be published at the end of October 2025.

The 2026 version of the Swiss CHOP code classification was published

On July 31, 2025, the Swiss Federal Statistics Office (UFS) released the systematic version of the Swiss classification of surgical interventions (CHOP) for 2026. The CHOP classification is now available in German and will come into force on January 1, 2026. Multiple new procedure codes were introduced in various fields, including the cardiovascular, ENT, extracorporeal treatments, interventional radiology, nephrology and urology, orthopedics, peripheral vascular, and radionucleide therapy.

Med Tech-related health technology assessments in Wales in March-April 2025

In March-April 2025, Health Technology Wales (HTW) accomplished one full appraisal of permanent implant brachytherapy devices for unresectable pancreatic cancer. Five Med Tech-related Topic Exploration Reports were published (on superior rectal artery embolization, glucose monitoring systems in neonates, gender-affirming surgery, telemetric intracranial pressure monitoring, tumor-profiling tests to guide bisphosphonate treatment in cancer).

CNEDiMTS recommendations regarding registration in the LPPR List in April 2025

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations regarding the registration of medical devices and medical aids in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR) following the April 2025 meetings of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). Eleven favorable opinions were published concerning the registration of new devices or modifying conditions/indications for existing ones in the LPPR List. The recommendations relate to devices in the fields of endocrine, e-health, neuromodulation, peripheral vascular, and medical aids.

Recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France in March 2025

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) has released new recommendations regarding add-on reimbursement for medical devices and medical aids following the March 2025 meetings of the National Commission for the Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). Six favorable opinions were published concerning the registration of new devices or modifying conditions/indications for existing ones in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR). A regular update of the Danish SKS coding system from April 2025

The Danish Health Data Authority quarterly updates the Health Care Classification System (SKS). The latest version was published in mid-March 2025 to come into force on April 1, 2025. Among other changes, fifty-one new procedure codes were introduced concerning cardiovascular, diagnostic imaging, dermatology, gastrointestinal, nephrology and urology, nuclear medicine, orthopedics, peripheral vascular, pulmonary and airways, surgical procedures, robotic surgery, and some other fields.

Recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France in February 2025

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) has released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the February 2025 meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). Sixteen favorable opinions were published concerning the registration or modification of registration conditions/extension of indications for the medical devices in the List of Reimbursable Products and Services (LPPR). They relate to cardiovascular and peripheral vascular, neurovascular, endocrinology, interventional radiology, nephrology and urology, orthopedic devices, and medical aids.

Innovative project on carotid artery stenosis recommended for integration into standard care in Germany

In late February 2025, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the decision recommending the transfer to standard care for the completed project in the peripheral vascular field. The project was dedicated to the integration and spatial analysis of regional, site-specific, and patient-specific factors to improve the quality of care in carotid artery revascularization.
