Launch of the Health Reform Fund in Austria
On March 27, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Care, and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK) announced that the regulation supporting the launch of the Health Reform Fund had been signed.
By 2030, the Fund will have between €497.5 million and €580 million available each year, meaning more than €2.6 billion will be invested in the further development of the healthcare system over the next five years.
In terms of content, the Health Reform Fund focuses on three main priorities: expanding outpatient care, strengthening prevention, and modernizing the system through new structures and digitalization. In addition, targeted investments will be made in new forms of care. These include specialized centers for chronic diseases and the expansion of psychosocial services for children and adolescents. Home-based medical care will also be strengthened. Special attention will also be given to women’s health, with a particular focus on ensuring adequate publicly funded gynecological care in all areas.
A key principle of the Health Reform Fund is the clear link between funding and outcomes. Measurable indicators will be defined for all measures, and their achievement will be regularly reviewed. Funds will be fully disbursed only if the agreed progress is achieved. This ensures that reforms are not only announced but also implemented.
