Two thematic horizon scans in the cancer field were launched in Sweden
In October 2025, the Swedish Dental and Pharmaceutical Benefits Agency (TLV) initiated two thematic horizon scans in the field of cancer.
This horizon scanning is a part of the Orderly introduction framework for medical technologies. This framework supports the national adoption of novel technologies via a staged process, including horizon scanning, selection of technologies for evaluation, decision on national collaboration, health economic evaluation by the TLV, and recommendations by the Medical Technologies Product (MTP) Council to regions.
The purpose of these newly launched horizon scans is to identify innovative technologies that may be of interest for Swedish healthcare, focusing on two specific areas:
- Digital image diagnostics – that is, machine-based and automated image analysis with a focus on radiology and pathology in cancer. Products that include AI support are of particular interest.
- Medical technology products used in the treatment of specific cancer diseases, including products used for the local treatment of individual tumors.
Various stakeholders, including industry associations, manufacturer companies, and healthcare providers, can submit proposals. The submission deadline is November 30, 2025.
