NICE HTA Lab projects to explore the use of AI in economic modelling and HTA processes
The Health Technology Assessment Innovation Laboratory (HTA Lab) was initiated by NICE in 2022. The HTA Lab enables NICE to work with stakeholders to address complex HTA challenges, such as disruptive new health technologies and broader methodological, process, and policy issues. It aims to drive solutions for current and future health challenges, translating innovations from the lab into practical applications.
In August 2025, two new projects related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) were initiated within the HTA lab:
- The project “Artificial intelligence in HTA” explores how generative AI techniques might be used to inform all aspects of economic modelling, from development to validation;
- The project “The future of HTA with AI” investigates how AI might support and evolve NICE’s HTA processes by exploring tools like automation, predictive modeling, and reasoning systems to improve efficiency and responsiveness.
