Coverage positions published by the Dutch Healthcare Institute in Q1-Q2 2025

In the first and second quarters of 2025, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (ZIN) published three coverage positions.

Two favorable recommendations were made for the inclusion in the basic health insurance of the following procedures/technologies:

  • Internal nasal valve correction in airway blockage: This procedure was deemed to have added clinical value, and its reimbursement under the basic health insurance became effective on May 15, 2025, for patients with long-term, severe nasal airway obstruction.
  • Molecular diagnostics of the NTRK gene fusion in cancer patients: ZIN recommended reimbursement of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) as an alternative to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) for detecting NTRK gene fusion (to support treatment decisions about NTRK inhibitors). Since NGS has already been reimbursed, the decision extends coverage to WGS, with retroactive effect from June 24, 2025.

Moreover, one procedure in the gastrointestinal field was not recommended for coverage under the basic health insurance.
