Belgian KCE launched a call for topic proposals for the 2026 research program

On May 5, 2025, the Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE) launched its annual call for proposals for research topics to be included in the 2026 program. Any citizen, organization, institution, or policymaker is invited to submit proposals to help shape future healthcare research priorities in Belgium. Proposals can be submitted via an online form by June 30, 2025.

The KCE research program covers three main areas:

  • Clinical Practice Guidelines focusing on the diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and follow-up of diseases;
  • Health Technology Assessments (HTA), evaluating new healthcare interventions;
  • Health Services Research (HSR) examines the organization and financing of healthcare.

Proposals must describe the context of the problem, including its causes, and provide an idea of its scope and severity. This description may address aspects such as:

  • The number of patients affected (prevalence and/or incidence);
  • The healthcare providers and institutions involved;
  • The impact on the patient's health status, life expectancy, and quality of life;
  • The availability, accessibility, effectiveness, quality, and continuity of care;
  • Health inequalities;
  • Financial accessibility for patients and/or public authorities;
  • The efficient use of available resources.

The following criteria are considered in assessing proposals: Relevance for healthcare policy, opportunities for improvement, and feasibility.

The final selected research topics will be communicated to the submitters in January 2026.
