A novel approach for upscaling innovations in digital care in the Netherlands
On December 1, 2020, the Dutch Minister of Health, Welfare, and Sport published a letter to the Parliament on upscaling digital care of high quality. The critical issue in implementing innovative e-health solutions in care is that good initiative is not implemented by all healthcare providers. It is emphasized that innovations, such as telemonitoring or e-consultations, can be only successful only if it has been fully integrated into the regular care process by all health care providers, and not in a single hospital.
To resolve complex issues with cooperation between all relevant parties, the Dutch Healthcare Institute (ZIN) uses the so-called "Sandbox method" ("ZorgZandbak"). The ZorgZandbak is an extension of existing digital healthcare innovation programs to offer guidance to experienced innovators in healthcare practice to show how digital care could become an integral part of regular maintenance.
