Planned changes in the Danish Health Authority structure from 2025
On November 22, 2024, the Danish Health Authority (Sundhedsstyrelsen) announced that it would change its organizational structure. This restructuring is expected to prepare the Danish Health Authority for Health Care Reform work and set a new framework for the work with public health. Some of the outlines include the following:
- A new unit called the “National Health Plan and Public Health Act” will solve tasks within national planning, making it possible to transform the health service in a coordinated manner and at the same pace. The unit will also be tasked with integrating the work on prevention at a structural level and aiming to create frameworks and conditions that promote health and well-being;
- The “Prevention and the Primary Health Service” unit will bring together the ambitions to strengthen the primary health service and individual-based prevention. The integration will create synergy in the work with the primary health service, e.g., the description of the tasks in general practice, the work with chronic care packages, and the patient- and citizen-oriented prevention;
- The Danish Health Authority will gather several analysis and evidence tasks in one unit and bring together the major treatment areas, cancer and psychiatry, in the same unit;
- There will be a framework for national planning in emergency preparedness.
The organizational changes will take effect on January 1, 2025.
