NHS Improvement calls for consultation regarding National Tariff Payment System 2019/20

On January 31, 2019, NHS England and NHS Improvement started the statutory consultation on the proposed 2019/20 national tariff. The consultation period ends at midnight at the end of 21 February 2019.

Back in October 2018, NHS Improvement set out some of the principal proposed changes to the payment system in 2019/20, in partnership with NHS England. This included changes to:

  • Duration of the tariff
  • Payment approach for emergency care
  • Market forces factor (MFF)
  • Maternity payment pathway

To support these proposals, NHS Digital published a 2019/20 engagement grouper.

The proposals for the 2019/20 National Tariff Payment System are subject to a statutory consultation process as required by the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (the 2012 Act). This provides an opportunity for stakeholders to tell what they think about the proposals. It also offers an opportunity for clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and ‘relevant providers’ (providers holding an NHS Improvement license, including NHS foundation trusts and independent providers, etc.) to object to the method that proposed for determining national prices.
