Health apps reimbursed in Belgium since February 2025

In February 2025, seven health apps reached Level 3+ of the mHealthBelgium validation pyramid, meaning regular reimbursement. These apps can only be reimbursed within the specific care pathway “Remote monitoring and therapeutic guidance in chronic heart failure”. The reimbursement will be available in hospitals that joined an agreement (Convention) with the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI/RIZIV) launched in January 2025.

The following health apps are now reimbursed (reached Level 3+):

  • BeWell Well@Home;
  • Comarch HomeHealth 2.0;
  • Comunicare;
  • FibriCheck;
  • Healthentia;
  • moveUP;
  • RemeCare.

The mHealthBelgium platform for mobile health applications was initiated in 2018. The central part of the platform is the so-called “validation pyramid”, which consists of three levels:

  • Level 1 – the app is a CE-certified medical device;
  • Level 2 – additional ICT criteria fulfilled, and reimbursement application is submitted to INAMI/RIZIV;
  • Level 3 – reimbursement within the context of a specific care pathway is granted by INAMI/RIZIV. This level is sub-divided into two sub-levels: Level 3- ("light"), when the health app has not sufficiently proven social-economic benefits and is still collecting data about social-economic added value and is reimbursed on a temporary basis; Level 3+ ("plus") when an app has sufficient evidence of social-economic benefits and can be reimbursed on a permanent basis.
