The G-BA Innovation Committee recommends transfer to standard care for another two completed projects in Germany
In late November 2024, the Innovation Committee at the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) published the decisions recommending the transfer to standard care for two completed projects. The projects were dedicated to relieving the burden of emergency rooms and improving infection surveillance in nursing homes.
The use of community emergency paramedics in the Oldenburg region within the project “ILEG - Use, services, and effects of the community emergency paramedic” has prevented unnecessary transport to hospitals and relieved the burden on rescue services and emergency rooms. The project focused on the needs-based deployment of personnel and rescue equipment. Three-quarters of the patients whose emergency situation had previously been classified as non-life-threatening by the rescue control center were cared for at home by the community emergency paramedics. The significance of the good results is limited (e.g., due to the Corona pandemic). Nevertheless, the Innovation Committee will forward the project results to the relevant stakeholders for consideration.
The project “SIMPATI - Surveillance of nosocomial infections and multi-resistant pathogens (MRE) in patients in outpatient intensive care” demonstrated that the materials developed with the participating nursing services can be used for setting up a surveillance system in outpatient intensive care. The training materials and the digital surveillance tool for recording infections in a healthcare facility are available for further use. However, there is little information about a central component of surveillance - comparative feedback to the nursing services on their respective infection rates; it was rarely used. It is also unclear whether statements on the frequency and type of nosocomial pathogens can be transferred to other healthcare facilities that provide outpatient intensive care. Despite the limitations, the Innovation Committee will forward the project results to the relevant stakeholders for consideration.
