Reimbursement summary for angioplasty of arteries of lower extremities

This post presents an extract from our reimbursement analysis for angioplasty of arteries lower extremities using plain and drug-coated balloons (DCBs) for peripheral artery disease in England, France and Germany. Plain balloon angioplasty is reimbursement via DRG solely and DCBs are reimbursement via combination of DRG and add-on reimbursement.

Devices for mechanical thrombectomy for stroke and materials for hysterosalpingo sonography were added to the list of reimbursed implants and invasive devices in Belgium in July

New material codes for neurovascular self-expanding stent retrievers for clot removal (mechanical thrombectomy for stroke) and foam preparation for hysterosalpingosonography were added to the List of reimbursable devices of the Belgian National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI-RIZIV) in July.

Stent retrievers for restoring blood flow and retrieving clots from occluded blood vessels in the brain

  • Devices will be reimbursed using a generic tariff with no registration on the nominative list (it does not exist for stent retrievers)
  • The following procedure codes have been implemented:
    • 182136 – 182140 “One or more thrombus retrievers for endovascular intracranial mechanical thrombectomy procedure in case of ischemic stroke” with tariff of €4,500;
    • 182136 – 182140 “All the equipment for the endovascular extraction of a thrombus by aspiration or necessary for the use of a thrombus retriever during an endovascular intracranial mechanical thrombectomy procedure in case of ischemic stroke” with tariff of €3,000;
    • 182173 – 182184 “All dilatation equipment and possible stent used during endovascular treatment of proximal arterial constriction in order to have access for endovascular extraction of an intracranial thrombus in case of ischemic stroke” with tariff of €900.
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement, provided in paragraph G-§10 of the List of reimbursable implants and invasive medical devices

Materials for foam preparation, used for hysterosalpingo foam sonography

  • Devices will be reimbursed using a generic tariff, but registration on the nominative list is required
  • The following procedure codes have been implemented:
    • 182114 - 182125 “All consumable equipment, with or without catheter, including components required for foam preparation, used for hysterosalpingo foam sonography” with tariff of €60.44;
  • Nominative list 36501 with brand-specific description of devices was created;
  • Only one product (ExEm Foam-Kit, Goodlife Pharma) has been registered in the nominative list 36501 so far;
  • There are specific conditions of reimbursement, provided in paragraph H-§05 of the List of reimbursable implants and invasive medical devices.
