New codes were introduced to code the gestational age in childbirth from 21 to 42 completed weeks (301.21 - 301.42). The new codes enable the recording of the frequency of deliveries in the obstetric facilities. These codes are mandatory as an additional diagnosis for stays with childbirth, but cannot be documented as the main diagnosis.
