Belgian National Institute for Health and diability insurance launched a call for projects via the application of negative pressure wound therapy in home nursing

The treatment of wounds by Negative Pressure Therapy (NPT) is a non-invasive, unique and dynamic system that promotes healing of wounds. The demand and the possibilities of using this therapy at home are more and more numerous. For this reason, INAMI/RIZIV launched a study for a maximum period of 18 months in order to find answers on these 3 questions:

  • How does the application of NPT in home care (from the observation of 1,000 patients) take place?
  • What is the financial impact of the application of home NPT (patient, home care nurse)?
  • How do patients, their families, and home-based nurses perceive the use of home-based NPT?

To complete this study, 20 pilot projects will be initiated and supported by a scientific team. This is done in accordance with the “Article 56, § 1”, which allows to initiate experimental projects in the field of health care.
