Danish Health Authority has published new recommendations for cervical cancer screening

In order to prevent as many cervical cancer cases as possible, it is crucial that all women between the ages of 23 and 64 have the opportunity to be screened. Unfortunately, there is a group of women who do not participate in the screening: 25 percent of women do not participate in the screening, and in those women almost half of all cases of cervical cancer occur. New recommendations will help to change the situation.

As part of the recommendations, the National Board of Health at the same time will assess whether the cytological test can be replaced by the HPV test, which is currently used only in women of 60-64 year old.

The regions will set up a national steering group for cervical screening, which will ensure that the recommendations are implemented and coordinated across the regions. In the coming period, the steering group will, among other things, prepare a detailed plan for how to use the HPV test.
