This post presents an extract from our reimbursement analysis for angioplasty of arteries lower extremities using plain and drug-coated balloons (DCBs) for peripheral artery disease in England, France and Germany. Plain balloon angioplasty is reimbursement via DRG solely and DCBs are reimbursement via combination of DRG and add-on reimbursement.

Reimbursement request list for companion diagnostics and personalized medicine updated in Belgium

In September 2020, the list of companion diagnostic tests, which are evaluated for reimbursement, was updated. INAMI has a specific reimbursement framework for companion diagnostic tests. INAMI Nomenclature codes from Article 33ter can only be reimbursed in relation to specific biomarker tests and drugs from Chapter VIII of the reimbursable pharmaceutical specialties (Royal Decree of February 1, 2018).

The updated list of molecular companion diagnostics (accompanied by appropriate active ingredient) for which a reimbursement application has been made (with the month of the application) is presented below:

  • ALK - Lorlatinib (August 2019)
  • FLT3-TKD and FLT3-ITD - Gilteritinib (October 2019)
  • NTRK - Larotrectinib (October 2019)
  • BCR/ABL1 - Dasatinib (November 2019)
  • TP53 and 17p deletion - Venetoclax + Obinutuzumab (April 2020)
  • BRAF V600 - Trametinib + Dabrafenib (June 2020)
  • ALK - Brigatinib (June 2020)
  • PIK3CA - Alpelisib (July 2020)

Regular update of the Norwegian Laboratory Code System released

On November 23, 2024, the Norwegian Directorate of Health released an updated version of the Norwegian Laboratory Code (NLK) system and associated tariffs to be implemented no later than January 1, 2025. Thirty-two new codes were added in the biochemistry, microbiology, clinical pharmacology, and immunology fields.

Remote monitoring of patients with chronic heart failure will be reimbursed in Belgium

In December 2024, the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI/RIZIV) launched a new agreement (Convention) allowing reimbursement for remote monitoring of patients with chronic heart failure. It will come into force on January 1, 2025. New codes (pseudonomenclature) with fees for packages of care will be used for reimbursement. The packages include monitoring of clinical parameters by patients at home (e.g., blood pressure measurement or pulmonary artery pressure measured by an implanted sensor) and transmission of data via a health app to the remote monitoring team at the hospital.

Updates in the coverage of medical services in Switzerland in 2025

On December 2, 2024, the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health published the changes that will occur to the Healthcare Benefit Ordinance (KLV/OPre), which determines coverage of medical services in Switzerland. The updates will enter into force on January 1, 2025, and they relate to the list of explicitly evaluated services (Annex 1 of KLV/OPre), outpatient-before-hospital services (Annex 1a), List of Tools and Equipment (Annex 2), and the List of Analyses (Annex 3).
