Specialized Commissioning Clinical Commissioning Policies Work Programme updated
On February 24, 2021, NHS England published an update of the Specialized Services Policy Pipeline (covering period November 10, 2020 - February 10, 2021).
Three types of Work Programmes exist:
- Clinical commissioning policy work program;
- Specialized commissioning service specification work program;
- Commissioning-through-Evaluation work programs.
Updates were only made in the clinical commissioning policy work program. Two new Clinical Commissioning Policies were added to the work program; however, only one related to med-tech (surgery for pectus deformity in all ages).
Seven new policies were published, five of which concern med-tech:
- Pharmacogenomic testing for DPYD polymorphisms with fluoropyrimidine therapies (published on November 25, 2020) is recommended to be available through routine commissioning as a pre-treatment screening test prior to the administration of fluoropyrimidine-based therapy;
- Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for patients with previously irradiated, locally recurrent primary pelvic tumours (all ages) (published on January 22, 2021) is recommended to be available as a treatment option through routine commissioning;
- Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for patients with previously irradiated, locally recurrent para-aortic tumours (all ages) (published on January 22, 2021) is not recommended to be available as a treatment option through routine commissioning;
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT) to the surgical cavity following resection of cerebral metastases (all ages) (published on January 22, 2021) is not recommended to be available as a treatment option through routine commissioning;
- Proton Beam Radiotherapy for Adult Primary Lung Cancer (published on February 11, 2021) is not recommended as a treatment option.
