Plasmapheresis procedure was assessed by Spanish Health Technology Assessment Agency (AETS) in patients with Alzheimer’s disease

In December, 2017 the Spanish Health Technology Assessment Agency (AETS) published report with results of evaluation of plasmapheresis use in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Efficacy and safety of procedure was assessed within systematic literature review.  Only three studies with significant methodological limitations were identified. Thus, available evidence was assessed as very low with a high risk of bias. Furthermore, data from clinical studies did not report quantitative efficacy and safety results which were inconclusive.

Therefore, AETS stated that available evidence is not sufficient to give final conclusion for recommendations of application of plasmapheresis in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
