Ongoing re-evaluations of the compulsory benefits program in Switzerland

In 2015, the Federal Office for Public Health (FOPH) launched an HTA program intending to reassess the benefits already reimbursed by compulsory health insurance. This program examines potentially obsolete benefits to remove them from the benefit catalog or to limit the obligation to reimburse.

The program is organized HTA section of the FOPH with the following list of ongoing procedures:

  • Multigene Expression Tests in Breast Cancer (link);
  • Thyroid hormone tests to confirm primary hypo- or hyperthyroidism (link);
  • Vitamin D testing (link);
  • Cardiac catheterization for coronary artery disease (link);
  • Rapid tests in physician’s office (link);
  • Invasive procedures for coronary artery disease (link);
  • Folic acid tests for suspected folic acid deficiency (link).

The final reports will be published on the FOPH website upon completion.
