Norwegian Directorate of e-Health released a new version of the National Laboratory Code System
In late November 2020, the Norwegian Directorate of e-Health released an updated version of the National Laboratory code (NLK) system and associated tariffs that will be implemented not later than January 01, 2021.
The Directorate of e-Health manages the national version of the coding system, which is based on the international NPU coding system, and release updated five times a year (January, March, May, September, and November).
NLK system is used for activity-based reimbursement in outpatient settings since 2018. Norwegian Health Economics Administration (Helfo) reimburses performed laboratory tests. The patient must be referred by a doctor, chiropractor, manual therapist, dentist, or psychologist outside the hospital to be reimbursed via this scheme.
A total of 25 new codes were added in this version of NLK, 201 codes have been changed, and eight codes were inactivated. Six new codes for SARS-related coronavirus antigen and six new codes for SARS-CoV-2 antigen have been established.
