NHSX seeks remote monitoring suppliers to manage the pressure of Covid-19
In response to the Covid-19 outbreak, NHSX looks for remote monitoring technology suppliers to help scale solutions across the UK. The organization invited technology companies to apply in a tender notice published on May 15.
During the next phases of the pandemic, remote monitoring care systems will focus in particular on Covid-19 patients and the treatment of patients with long-term conditions to sustain care.
Successful suppliers will be part of the Spark Dynamic Purchasing System that allows suppliers to offer their solution to the public sector as a whole. The system will continue to be open to new suppliers and aims to meet the capacity to meet the needs, the tender notice states.
Suppliers had to apply by May 29; the contract begins on June 30.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the NHS has rapidly increased its digital capabilities. Remote consultations have become the norm, with GPs, outpatient services, dental practices, and other services only open in an emergency or special cases for face-to-face appointments.
In March, NHS England issued a confidential 48-hour tender for the immediate provision of primary care consultations online, in an effort to help the health service cope with unprecedented virus pressure. Eleven suppliers were selected to provide video consultations, alongside separate suppliers for other technologies.
NHSX confirmed the use of WhatsApp, Skype, and other off-the-shelf messaging apps that can be used as a short-term measure to support practices that are yet to be put in place video consultation services.
