NHS England published new specialized service specifications for clinical networks
In March 2024, NHS England published several new service specifications defining the scope and function of clinical networks in different fields.
Clinical networks are clinically led groups of professionals, service users, and organizations working together across professional, organizational, and geographical boundaries. Clinical networks allow specialty-level collaboration between patients, providers, and commissioners.
The aims of the clinical networks are to:
- Improve overall outcomes, safety, patient and staff experience;
- Ensure future sustainability and viability of services;
- Ensure population health is the key emphasis across the network.
Twelve service specifications were published, which set out the appropriate scope and functions of each clinical network:
- Adult critical care clinical network;
- Burns clinical network;
- Cardiac clinical network;
- Congenital heart disease clinical network;
- Hepatitis C clinical network;
- Major trauma clinical network;
- Neonatal critical care clinical network;
- Neurosurgery clinical network
- Paediatric critical care clinical network;
- Renal clinical network;
- Surgery in children clinical network;
- Spinal surgery clinical network.
