New outpatient tariff system approved in Switzerland

At its meeting on April 30, 2025, the Federal Council approved the new outpatient reimbursement system, which consists of the TARDOC catalog of individual service tariffs (ambulatory settings) and the flat-rate system (day case settings).

Since the Swiss Federal Council's partial approval in June 2024, the Organization for Outpatient Physician Tariffs (OAAT AG), involving all tariff partners, has been working on the coordination between various actors and the integration of two components of the new system, initially developed independently of each other.

The approval is valid until December 31, 2028, to allow any necessary adjustments after introducing the new system. The TARDOC and the outpatient flat rates will enter into force on January 1, 2026.

Both individual service tariffs and outpatient flat rates will be reviewed through established processes, with the first comprehensive revision already scheduled for January 1, 2027. According to OAAT and prior.swiss, the submission process for this first revision was launched in February 2025.
