MedTech-related health technology assessments from NIHR in September 2022
The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) funds valuable independent research for health and social care decision-makers in England. Reports from the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme are published in the NIHR HTA Journal and inform NICE guidance.
In September 2022, one MedTech-related assessment was published in the NIHR HTA Journal:
- Early computed tomography coronary angiography in adults presenting with suspected acute coronary syndrome, based on a prospective, multicenter, open, parallel-group randomized controlled trial with blinded end-point adjudication (RAPID-CTCA). Early computed tomography coronary angiography (CTCA), in addition to standard care, was compared with standard care alone. Participants were followed up for one year. This study showed that CTCA did not alter one-year all-cause death or subsequent myocardial infarction, but it did increase the length of hospital stay and healthcare cost. These findings do not support the routine use of early computed tomography coronary angiography in intermediate-risk patients with acute chest pain.
