Four new topics for selected for HTA by IQWiG in Germany

At the end of January 2019, The Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) has selected the following four medical topics from citizens' suggestions for scientific assessment in the form of HTA reports:

  • The efficacy of behavioral and psychotherapeutic procedures in the treatment of mild depression in children and adolescents
  • mHealth solutions (e.g., medical apps) in the improvement of the self-management in patients with multiple sclerosis
  • Non-pharmacological procedures in the treatment of elephantiasis
  • Potentials of non-pharmacological pain relief in endometriosis

The primary goal was to select topics that are particularly relevant for patient care in Germany from the submitted proposals.

The HTA reports on the four new topics are expected to be available at the ThemenCheck Medizin from mid-2020. All HTA reports are forwarded by the IQWiG to institutions and stakeholders who decide on the benefits for statutory health insurance and the organization of the healthcare system.

The next topic selection process will start in the summer of 2019. Further HTA topics will be selected from all proposals submitted so far for the subsequent reports. The topics can be suggested here.
