Dutch ZonMw accepts applications for grants under the “Effectiveness Study 2026” round of the Efficiency Research program

The Efficiency Research program of the Dutch Organization for Health Research and Development (ZonMw) is intended to develop socially relevant and high-quality knowledge about the effectiveness and costs of innovative and existing non-pharmaceutical diagnostic and therapeutic interventions within the basic insurance package or long-term care.

On December 17, 2024, ZonMw announced the submission of grant applications for the subsidy round “Effectiveness Study 2026” of the Efficiency Research program, which is intended for projects to increase knowledge for healthcare practice about the effectiveness and costs of interventions in the Netherlands with the following conditions:

  • The study provides knowledge about the effectiveness and costs of non-pharmacotherapeutic interventions;
  • This concerns a comparison of an intervention with standard care;
  • This concerns comparative research into interventions whose safety has been demonstrated and whose efficacy has been made plausible;
  • The interventions examined belong to the basic Health Insurance Act (Zvw) or Long-term Care Act (Wlz) care package or are likely to become part of it in the future;
  • The study is submitted, designed and executed by a multicenter collaboration in which at least two non-university centers participate that independently implement the intervention.

A total of €8,9 million is available for this subsidy round. For individual research proposals, the maximum budget that can be requested is €800,000 per application. A detailed application can be submitted only if the applicant has submitted a project idea (the deadline for submitting a project idea was September 3, 2024).

The deadline for the submission of the applications is March 4, 2025.
