Clinical guidelines and Med Tech-related technology assessments from NICE in the second half of October 2017

In the second half of October (NICE) published two new clinical guidelines:

  • Clinical guideline Cataracts in adults: management covers managing cataracts in adults aged 18 and over. It aims to improve care before, during and after cataract surgery by optimising service organisation, referral and surgical management, and reducing complications. It further aims to improve the availability of information for people with cataracts before, during and after cataract surgery.
  • Clinical guideline Cystic fibrosis: diagnosis and management covers diagnosing and managing cystic fibrosis, including monitoring and management of the symptoms to improve quality of life. There are also detailed recommendations on treating the most common infections in people with cystic fibrosis.

MedTech Innovation Briefing is the NICE's advice program for innovative technologies. It provides an overview of clinical effectiveness, safety and cost. It does not offer a formal guidance and it therefore does not provide any recommendations.

Two new Medtech Innovation Briefings for Radiation dose monitoring software for medical imaging with ionising radiation (8 radiation dose monitoring software technologies that automatically gather and analyze information on patients' exposure to ionising radiation from medical imaging and X‑ray-guided procedures) and Promonitor for monitoring response to biologics in rheumatoid arthritis (used to monitor response to biologic therapies) have been published.
