Austrian Ministry of Health published COVID-19-related documentation

The Federal Ministry for Social Affairs, Health, Care, and Consumer Protection (BMSGPK) defined the rules for diagnosis and documentation of COVID-19 in hospitals.

Cases of illness with a confirmed COVID-19 should be coded with the diagnosis code "U07.1 - COVID-19." When this code is used as the main diagnosis, the group HDG05.03 "Pneumonia and bronchiolitis" is used for reimbursement.

In the case of an unconfirmed suspected case, diagnosis code “Z03.8 Observation in other suspected cases” should be used. Quarantine cases (for hospital quarantine) are coded with the code “Z29.0 Isolation as prophylactic measure.”

These diagnoses must also be encrypted for outpatient visits.

BMSGPK also defined the rules for administrative documentation related to the stay at ICU, hospitals not financed by the State Health Fund, and institutions without a cadastral number ("temporary hospital") due to COVID19.
