This Tool is used as a mechanism to identify whether healthcare activity belongs to specialized services using so-called identification rules. Forty-three new service lines were introduced in multiple areas. Some examples are provided below:

  • NCBPS61M Specialist cancer services (adults): head and neck cancer surgery;
  • NCBPS51A Interventional oncology (adults);
  • NCBPS08V MR-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (MRgLITT) (adults);
  • NCBPS58G Neurosurgery LVHC (low volume high-complexity) regional: deep brain stimulation;

Furthermore, eight service lines were updated.

Eligible top-up rates (PSS top-up - % uplift to HRG tariff when procedure performed in the specialized center) connected to each service line are published in the NHS Payment Scheme (Annex A, 2024/25).
