Publications Digest: Reimbursement practices for use of digital devices in atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias: a European Heart Rhythm Association survey

MTRC shares the most relevant and impactful publications in the field of market access and HEOR for medical technologies in Europe through its Publications Digest. In a recent publication, Boriani et al. evaluated the expectations and opinions of healthcare professionals in Europe on reimbursement policies for the use of digital devices (including wearables) in atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias. The study summarized information about the use of digital devices, trust in digital technologies, and availability of reimbursement of digital technologies in individual EU countries.

Recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France in May 2023

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS) in May 2023. Twenty-one recommendations were published in relation to the registration, modification of registration conditions, and renewal of registration for devices in the List of reimbursable products and services (LPPR). Opinions concern cardiovascular and peripheral vascular, endocrine, ENT, gastrointestinal, and orthopedic devices, as well as medical aids.

MedTech-related health technology assessments from NIHR in March 2023

In March 2023, the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) in England released two MedTech-related reports in its Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Journal, which concerned total ankle replacement versus ankle arthrodesis in end-stage osteoarthritis, and techniques for managing an impacted fetal head during emergency cesarean section. HTA Journal publishes research reports on the effectiveness, costs, and broader impact of health technologies for those who use, manage, and provide care in the NHS and informs National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance.

Recommendations about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in France in October 2022

The French National Authority for Health released new recommendations about add-on reimbursement of medical devices and medical aids from the meetings of the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies in October 2022. Fourteen recommendations were published in relation to the registration, modification of registration conditions, and renewal of registration for devices in the List of reimbursable products and services. Med Tech-related technology assessments and clinical guidelines from NICE in October 2019

In October 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) published one new interventional procedure guidance (for midcarpal hemiarthroplasty for wrist arthritis) and two new MedTech innovation briefings (for superDimension Navigation System to help diagnostic sampling of peripheral lung lesions and MR-proADM test for use with clinical deterioration scores in cases of suspected infection).

MTRC has released European reimbursement report for total and partial hip replacement in 11 EU countries

The report presents a summary of reimbursement situation for total and partial hip replacement in Europe. The following indications will be considered: coxarthrosis, osteonecrosis. The analysis covers procedure coding, payment mechanism, reimbursement tariffs and policy restrictions in 11 EU countries including Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland.

Thirty new procedure codes were added to private reimbursement schedule in England in February 2018

The Clinical Coding and Schedule Development Group develops and maintains procedural and diagnostics nomenclature for private payers in England. In February new codes for preparation and delivery of radiotherapy, knee resurfacing arthroplasty, balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube and MRI-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) thalamotomy for essential tremor were added to the CCSD Schedule.

The French National Authority for Health (HAS) published new set of decisions about add-on reimbursement for medical devices in February

In February, HAS published a set of decisions about add-on reimbursement of medical devices that were evaluated by the National Commission for Evaluation of Medical Devices and Health Technologies (CNEDiMTS). These decisions concern cardiac pacemakers, devices for aortic root replacement, orthopedic devices (double mobility cups, porous high-density polyethylene implants) and other devices.
