Reimbursement for critical care has been changed in France

A new decree (decree n°2017-247, of 30 February 2017) changed reimbursement approach for critical care (including resuscitation, intensive care and monitoring) in France. Before, it was reimbursed via daily supplements on top of base DRG tariff. New model introduces a mixed payment system with daily supplements and additional annual flat-rate fee, which depends on the size of the intensive care unit and activity in the previous year.

The idea behind the change is to increase financial stability of ICU units.

Link to the decree (in French) is here.
